SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS

Melba Projects will be targeted to prepare the student for Career and College Readiness in alignment with the new National Common Core State Standards.  Projects at every level will seek to incorporate Service Learning and Inquiry  in order to impact the community.  All Projects will follow the basic model presented below, commonly referred to as the 4 P's.  Students will also be encouraged to use innovation and technology in order to prepare for the 21st Century.

​​​Phase 1:  Students will write research papers using the 6 + 1 Traits.  All papers will seek to incorporate inquiry and discovery methods so necessary for research today.  Secondly, students will be encouraged to use innovation and technology effectively as they research.

Phase 2:  Depending on grade level, students will produce a product as an extension of their research that will impact their classroom, school and local communities.

Portfolio

Phase 3:  Students will present their work logs and any parts of the process involved in both their research and the production of their community based project.

Presentation

Phase 4:  Students will present their findings and their products to a variety of audiences.  Every student will be encouraged to utilize innovation and technology in anticipation for Career and College readiness.
